Kerri Willard and Chris Scheppler
My first thought, "Tall, dark and handsome." He was the kitchen manager; I was the new ice cream girl from California. I told everyone he was going to be my best guy friend. No one believed me. I was oblivious to what was so obvious to everyone else.
One night Chris said to me, "you want to make a deal? I'll mop your floor, if you let me take you out." Thanksgiving 2005 we had our first date. That night, I knew love was the reason I moved to Oregon.
Four years later Chris and I were at the mall looking at jewelry just for fun. When he stopped at the engagement rings I didn't think anything of it because we had talked of marriage before. A marquise ring caught my eye. I did not know his chosen ring for me was already in his pocket. Three days later engagement rings came up I said, "I wonder what ring you would have picked out if I hadn't shown you what I liked?" He smiled and said, "Let's go take a walk."
It was December 2009; we walked hand in hand under the starry sky. The street lamps made the icy blacktop sparkle, mirroring the twinkling stars
above. Chris on one knee, jewelry box opened, asking me to marry him. "Yes", I said, he slid the marquise ring on and it was perfect, shining like the stars and ice. I was no longer holding hands with my boyfriend, but my fiancé.
